Chroming is used for plating base metals that corrode easily. One can get a metal article chromed in a plating shop, where the plating process takes place.

The process of chroming, also known as chrome plating, is a process by which Chrome metal forms hard steel-grey masses on the metal which finally gleams like silver. Less than three per cent of the mixture of chromium and steel forms an extremely hard alloy.

Most of the times, the article to be plated is not just introduced to chrome metal. It is first plated with copper, nickel and then with chrome. It is also interesting to note that it is not just metals that are plated; many times, articles made of other materials like plastic are also chrome plated, for a better look and durability.
