Why Did The British Government Abandon Support Of A Jewish Homeland In The Late 1930's?

I originally thought the British government did indeed support the Zionist movement as stated in the Balfour Declaration, but someone told me this was incorrect. Why did Britain alter its original proposal in 1930?

It didn't. From 1937 to 1939 (at least) there was frequent harrassment of Arab villages by the British Army and none of any Jewish one.
