A mammography exam or X-ray of the breast is called mammogram. It is a breast screening test for women between fifty and seventy years of age in United Kingdom. It is used to detect breast cancer or a lump. In this, the X-ray dose administered is low of around 0.7 mSv. This ionizing radiation creates the mammogram or X-ray image. The mammograms are analyzed by radiologists for any tumours or lumps.
It is considered that wavelength exceeding that used for bone radiography is normal.
In some countries mammography is encouraged in older women. The testing or mammograms has reduced the death rate among women with breast cancer because of early detection of the tumours. Ductography, Magnetic Resonance and Ultrasound can be used with Mammography for further analysis.
