Actually, the Mario where you are in the sewers attacking the little monsters was Mario Brothers, Super Mario Brothers was for the SNES and that's when you're above ground and underground, a scroller game.

Duck Hunt and Super Mario Brothers. The original NES came with Duck Hunt which was one of the only cartridges throughout the entire run of that console that had a split game choice within the cartridge when you turned on the console with the Duck Hunt game loaded. It also had some game on the duck hunt cartridge that allowed you to use the Nintendo Robot that came with all original NES system. The robot would spin a gyroscope in it's hands and then place it spinning to either it's left plate to rest and spin on to activate a button like a human player would press one of the gamepad buttons A or B, or the robot would place the spinning gyroscope to it's right on a resting pad which would make the professor in the game walk through pipe style doorways which would open or close allowing the character to move thru the game.
