Hoover was the 31st president of the United States. His full name was Herbert Clark Hoover. He was born in the year 1874, in West Branch, Iowa. He was the president for four years from 1929-1933.

Mr. Hoover was a popular mining businessman before he ventured into politics. As a republican, he usurped the democrat Alfred Smith in the presidential election held in 1928. The Great Depression of 1929 plagued his presidency.  In spite of introducing a lot of successful reforms, Hoover was held responsible for the dreadful economic situation and had to face defeat when he bid for the presidential post in the second term, by the democrat Franklin D. Roosevelt. Hoover died on 20th October, 1964 in New York.
