Where Is The Sea Of Tranquility?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

In celestial terms the Mare Tranquillitatis or the Sea of Tranquility is located at 00.67408° N latitude and 23.47297°E longitude on the surface of the moon. It was here that man first set foot on the moon. It is located within the tranquillitatis basin on earth's oldest satellite (the moon) and is topographically a lunar mare, nothing but a plain of basalt.

Apollo 11 landed on the moon on July 20, 1969 four days after launching from the Earth and brought Buzz Aldrin to describe it as "magnificent desolation". There are three craters within the Sea (and apparently it has a lot of craters) named Aldrin, Collins and Armstrong. Named after the crew of Apollo 11 Neil Armstrong, Michael Collins and Edwin Aldrin, who were the first men on the moon.

A company called lunar registry is selling real estate property on this prime location of Mare Tranquillitatis (and not the breastbone) for $37.50 an acre.

In acupressure, the sea of tranquility is located in the center of the breastbone.
