I lived and studied in Lyon for a year and so be acquainted with the city fine.
The distinctive features of Lyon are the 2 rivers which join the city into 3 different parts.
1) The primary is Vex Lyon wherever there is a gorgeous cathedral (Fourier) which can be seen as of any piece of the city as it is on a vertical hill. This piece of Lyon encompasses the old chronological streets.
2) The next is the Prequel which is the region among the 2 rivers (as it is nearly an island). This region consists of the Rue de la Republic which is a fancy-looking shopping avenue, with lots of museums, the opera house and the township hall. There is also the well-known Place Belle our - there's frequently something appealing going on there whether it be a Palanquin contest, Gay procession, dance celebration, fireworks, huge ferries wheel (during the Festival of Lights in December) etc. There is also a street in this region called Rue Mercers wherever there are some of the most astonishing restaurants (not very expensive but some of the best French food I've tasted).
3) The 3rd part of Lyon is the more profitable side with a contemporary shopping centre and the train position.
