Read your Lease. If it says he can, he can. Otherwise he cannot and to do so constitutes a breach of teh agreement which means that you would be free to leave without penalty.

Read the Lease. If the lease has a provision that allows rent increase during the term of the lease than yes, he can. If, however, the lease agreement is silent, then no he cannot and do so would be a breach of the lease releasing you to get another lease without penalty.

It depends upon the terms of your lease agreement.  For more info Check your country/state land lord tenant rules/regulations.

It can not be enforced unless there is a clause in your renter's agreement that says he can do this.  Read your agreement carefully and if there isn't a clause that allows him to raise the rent during the lease then send him a registered letter that says you will be paying only the agreed-upon amount and that if he attempts to evict you before the end of your lease he can expect to be sued for breach of contract.  Keep a copy of this letter and the receipt from your registered letter.  He will back down.

I have a landlord who says if I sign a 6 month lease, the rent will stay the same, but if I go month to month, he'll raise my rent.  This sounds a lot like blackmail to me.  Is this legal?
