Who Is The President Of The World Bank?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

Paul Wolfowitz is the President of the World Bank. He was nominated as President for the World Bank in 2005, a move that generated not just praise but also a lot of criticism around the world. He was appointed as the 10th President of the World Bank Group on 31st March, 2005 unanimously by the institution's Board of Executive Directors. He is best known or most infamous as the architect of the George W. Bush administration's policies known as the Bush Doctrine.

Wolfowitz has so far maintained a low profile, opting for moderate changes rather than radical ones. . He has paid visits to the major clients of the World Bank, including some Sub-Saharan countries in Africa, India, China, and Brazil.

Many believe that major changes are imminent, which could include a change from loans to grants, cuts in the administrative budget, and increased importance for democratization. These changes would be in keeping with the agenda of the Bush administration for the World Bank. Wolfowitz's main challenge is to lead an organization where he is disliked by many for his role in the Iraq war.
