    Race, is the color of your skin....black, white, etc.  Ethnicity is your actual biological background....African American, Ecuadorian, Polish, etc.

      In a nutshell, ethnicity refers to one's cultural heritage while racial designations draw on observations of physical differences among different groups of individuals.

        To me both mean what your parents were, and your parent's parent's were so on and so forth... Like Italian, Swedish, Scottish....
