The current Italian national coach is former AC Milan and Atalanta player Roberto Donadoni.

Donadoni took over the job after the Italian side claimed victory in the two thousand and six world cup finals held in Germany, taking over the job from Italian Marcello Lippi.

Donadoni himself enjoyed a successful international career as a player, making sixty three appearacnes for his country in an international career that spanned ten years between nineteen eighty six and nineteen ninety six.  He made sixty three appearances and scored five goals for his country, and played in two world cup finals.  The first in the world cup finals of nineteen ninety, held in his native Italy and the second the world cup finals of nineteen ninety four where Italy earned a place in the final, only to lose on penalties to Brazil, with Italian talisman Roberto Baggio the player to miss the decisive penalty for the Italians.
