Where Is The Isle Of Sheppy?

Isle of Sheppy is a miniature island situated on the northern coast of Kent in the Thames Estuary. London is just about 38 miles to the east of the Isle of Sheppy. The name is derived from the saxon word Sceapige meaning the island of sheep.

The island consists of three landmasses known as Sheppy, Isle of Emley and the Isle of Harty. It is mainly situated on the south east of England and it's under the jurisdiction of the district Swale. Sheppey inhabitants are lovingly referred as Swampies, and have a population of 37,852.

Sheerness is considered as the largest town on the island. The other beautiful places are the Minster, a pebbled beach and Leysdown-on-sea which is adorned by a coarse sandy beach. The Royal Society for the Protection of Birds is a site worth watching at the Elmley Marshes. Ferry services are operational between the mainland and the island of Sheppy, one which goes to the west and the other to Elmley.
