The path of an electric current refers to the continuous path composed of conductors and conducting devices and including a source of electromotive force that drives the current around the circuit.
A circuit in which there is a closed, continous path fior the current to flow is termed as "Close Circuit" and where the path is not continous is termed "Open Circuit"
Current in a circuit flows obeying the OHM'S LAW, which states that the current in an (ideal) resistor (or other ohmic device) to be applied voltage divided by resistance:
I = V / R
I= current (Amperes)
V= Voltage / electromotive force
R= Resistance
Conventionally, current is taken to flow from the negative terminal to the positive terminal. This type of flow is called the Conventional Current.

Electric current is the flow of electrons that always flow from negative to positive terminal or from cathode to anode. However, the conventional current flows opposite to the direction of flow of charges. Therefore, it flows from positive to negative terminal or from anode to cathode.
