Is Chocolate Addictive?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

Technically, since self-proclaimed chocoholics don't go through any form of chemical withdrawal symptoms, experts don't consider chocolate addictive. But that doesn't mean chocolate doesn't warrant cravings. It has been proven that chocolate works with those "feel good" neruochemicals.

In the craving category, women tend to crave for chocolate more then men, who in turn crave high protein foods like steak and hamburgers. Women's desires are strongly influenced by the levels of the female hormones estrogen and progesterone, and that is why the cravings vary with their menstrual cycles. Of course taste has a lot to do with the popularity of chocolate too. In a study at the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia, chocolate cravings were not satisfied by pill made up of the ingredients in the real thing!

Although there will most likely not going to be an AA for chocolate lovers anytime soon, too much of a good thing will make you Unhappy....in the waistline department that is.
