The electric bass guitar was developed by a man called Paul Tutmarc, he designed a guitar style electric bass instrument that had frets and this bass was designed in such a way that it could be held and played horizontally.

A self taught electrical engineer who went by the name of Leo Fender had developed the first electric bass that was mass produced sometime in the 1950s; the Fender Precision Bass which was introduced in the year 1951 became widely copied model.
