This unusual show, a dark comedy set in World War II, starred Michael Elphick as Schultz, a reluctant conscript in the German army, who is recruited by SS counter-espionage because of his skills as a fraudster. His master-plan is to ruin the British wartime economy by flooding the country with forged £5 notes. The series is full of grim humour, exemplified by an exchange between Schultz and his insanely patriotic commander (Ian Richardson) in the last episode. As Berlin is about to fall and Schultz plans his escape, Richardson informs him that he is going to join the Fuehrer in his bunker. An embarrassed Schultz says, "It's a historic moment, Sir." Whereupon Richardson snaps, "Well, I'll never bloody forget it!" Despite such exchanges, the audience is never allowed to forget the underlying horror of the situation or its cruel absurdity; this is summed up when the Nazis need the help of a Jewish forger to create the £5 notes – all the while planning to kill him when he is no longer needed.

Private Schulz was played by the late Michael Elphick.
The Bunker exchange mentioned was actually between Major Nauheim (Ian Richardson) and General Kaltenbrunner (John Moffat) - it was Kaltenbrunner, Head of the Security Services, who said he was going to join Hitler in the bunker. In reality he didn't and was tried at Nuremberg and hanged.

Schulz was played by the late Michael Elphick.
The bunker exchange you mention was actually in the second last episode and was between Major Neuheim (Ian Richardson) and General Kaltenbrunner (John Moffat), head of the Security Services and it was Kaltenbrunner who was heading for the bunker.
He didn't die in the bunker, but was caught and tried at Nuremberg and hanged.
