    Here,twice the area of a square is 72 square miles.
    i.e the area of the square is 72/2=36 square miles.
    The formula to calculate the area of a square is l2,l is the length of each side of the square.
    .:l2=36
    or,l2=62
    or,l=6miles
    Hence,the length is 6 miles.

      2xArea=72 sq. Miles
      2x(Side)2=72
      (Side)2=72/2=36
      Side=square root of 36=6miles
      So, the length of each side of the square is 6miles
