Organ Donation?

Why will you, or why will you not, be an organ donor when the time comes?

Answer Question

I will be an organ donor & have that information on my D.L.  I also have that information detailed on my "Health Care Directive."  I also have a "Living Trust" in place and have taken the additional step of having my wife & all of our children sign a document which states that they can not "refuse" to allow my organs to be donated.

I have seen far too many instances where families have been torn apart by what on the surface, appears to be a "simple" thing.  If my organs can "save the life" of another or improve the life of someone else, so much the better.  As I said in the above paragraph, my wishes have been made known, and my family "WILL NOT" interfere.

As we all know, life is precious.  Now, I certainly understand that some individuals will not be able to donate, and that is that.  However, if one has the opportunity, I hope that they would at least give it serious consideration.  Good Q!  Thanks!

It sounds as if you've got all your bases covered. I couldn't agree more. I also have it on my license, in my Health Care Proxy, and I carry an organ donor card from The Living Bank.

I will be an organ donor.  The way i see it is if I'm brain dead than I'm not really using them anymore.  I'm dead but my organs can help save someone.  If you're referring to being alive and giving up an organ like a kidney or something than i would probably do it for the same reason.  I'm using it but i don't really need it as much as they do.  I'd just feel horrible if i didn't give it up and they died.

I said "when the time comes". I meant you would not be living. I certainly wouldn't expect people to give up their hearts, lungs, etc if they were still alive. Your generosity regarding a kidney is admirable.

I am an organ donor and in fact i told my wife if they want any other part of me they can have it. For me the body is the temple of the soul and once the soul has departed it is a mere shell. I feel personally that it would be wrong to deny someone a chance of life by destroying that which they dearly need. Can you think of a greater gift.

Great answer! The body is just a shell. I plan to be cremated with any usable parts donated to needy recipients.

I say if it's not all worn out and is still usable, take it! If there are portions of me that can still serve someone, let them be useful.  I would be grateful if I were in need of a donation, and would love to be able to give that to someone else before they send my remains onward to wherever they think is a good place.

When I worked at the hospital, I was allowed to sit in on an organ harvesting  - femurs, eyes, kidneys, liver.  The surgeon was so delicate and respectful of the body. And it was not horrible or gruesome--there was no feeling like when you know someone is undergoing similar procedures because of pain or illness.  This was a gift-giving.  When the surgeon was done, the body (she) was made cosmetically whole again.  In her final gift, this woman gave the chance of life and wholeness to those who would continue in this life, hopefully enjoying a new lease on life because of what she did.

I heard this slogan about organ donations:  "Don't take your organs to heaven.  Heaven knows we need them here".

I am a student and there was a"project" going on in our school.in it we are divided into groups to take up different social problem.my best friend's group took up organ donation. It rocked totally and we got almost 600 people sign the pledge form. Myself i would donate my whole body when i die to let the medical students pursue their studies with out any hinderances.there is a shortage because mostly in India ,Hindus are burnt & Muslims are burried.so it gets difficult to arrange for bodies.
And when you go up, the god would ask u what u did & if you have donated an organ u could say u 've donated a life.
