Seventh Day Adventist Reform Movement was a breakaway unit from the Seventh-day Adventist Church. The bone of contention in this case was the issue of taking part in World War I. The German chapter of the Seventh-day Adventist Church was of the opinion that those who were in the army should take part in the war, but this was not a unanimous opinion and those who disagreed were ex-communicated.

Those who were ex-communicated went on to form the Seventh Day Adventist Reform Movement. There was a further split due to differing political ideologies within the Seventh Day Adventist Reform Movement. This led to the birth of the International Missionary Society of Seventh Day Adventists Reform Movement. The Seventh Day Adventist Reform Movement is headquartered in Los Angeles, California after it was based in Europe till 2002. Seventh Day Adventist Reform Movement is considered to be more open in its attitude towards women when compared to its parent body.
