How Do You Trim A Golden Retrievers Hair?

I have a golden retriever that needs his hair trimmed, but I don't have time to take him to get it cut. So, how do I cut a golden retrievers hair?

Unless you want to show him ( in which case consult his breeder if you know them, or another breeder if not)  then I assume you just want to tidy him up.

First of all give him a wash and then a good brush and comb to remove loose hair and tangles.  Get some "thinning scissors" from your pet store.  These enable you to thin out the dogs coat without them looking like a topiary bush when you've finished, they are like a metal comb combined with scissors.  Have a look at some photoes of golden retrievers looking good, and just have a go!  If you get it wrong, don't worry - it will regrow in a few months.  Good luck!

I AM A PROFESSIONAL DOG GROOMER. THE BEST THING IS TO FIND A GROOMING SHOP THAT HAS SAT. OR SUN. HOURS. FIRST YOU HAVE TO FIGURE OUT IF YOU WANT THE DOG SHAVED OR TRIMMED UP, YOU CAN ALSO HAVE THEM DO A COMB ATTACHMENT WHICH CAN TAKE ALOT OF HAIR OFF BUT NOT BE SHORT LIKE A LAB. GROOMING DOGS AT HOME PROPERLY IS HARD TO DO, YOU MUST TAKE A COMB THROUGH THE DOGS HAIR TO MAKE SURE ALL UNDERCOAT IF REMOVED AND THERE ARE NO MATS,EXSPECIALLY BEHING THE EARS,WHICH IS WERE THEY COMMENLY OCCUR,THIS CAN BECOME PAINFULL BECAUSE THE SKIN WILL GET PULLED. MY BEST ADVICE IS TO GET A PROFFESSIONAL GROOMER TO DO THE DIRTY WORK FOR YOU.
