A lot of innocent people were put to death because people would accuse them of practicing the dark arts. As well, if you could swim you were automatically a witch but if not and sank you were innocent. So if you drowned you were innocent. There are a few films based on this and you will see how ridiculour preople can be mostly out of jelously or fear
