Where Is The Serengeti National Park?

Answer Question

The Serengeti National Park is situated in Tanzania in Africa, 130 km west of Arusha and its northern sector extends to the Kenyan border.

The park is a large area, over 14500 square kilometres that is covered by savannah grassland on a high plateau. It is well known for the enormous herds of grazing animals that migrate across it with the seasons.

The park is of great ecological significance because of the migration patterns of the large herbivores and it is also home to threatened animals such as the cheetah and the black rhinoceros. Some poaching does occur but far less than in other parks and the area is well controlled by rangers.

The main vegetation of the savannah is finger grass but sedge grass dominates the landscape in the park's slightly wetter regions. The area is punctuated by hills of black volcanic rock and mountain ranges occur in the north and along a corridor that runs west towards Lake Victoria.
