What Does Nibble Means?

Nibble is an act, which means to bite gently and constantly. It is usually taken as small morsels, something like quick tiny bites. It so derived from the Middle English word nebyllen.

In the technology world nibble refers to a computing idiom for the aggregation of four bits, or half an octet (an octet being an 8-bit byte). An entire byte is represented by two hexadecimal digits; as a result, it is widespread to demonstrate a byte of information as two nibbles. The nibble is frequently known as a "semioctet" or a "quartet" in a networking or telecommunication circumstance. However, now-a-days this idiom "nibble" usually refers to 8- and 4-bit collections, correspondingly, and is not frequently used for other sizes.

The first use of nibble was in binary coded decimal (BCD) scheme.this scheme use 1 nibble as a storage unit in computer. Nibble is sometime called a semi-octet in a computer base environment or telecommunication level and also by some rules companies.Moreover, a 2-bits amount is often called a crumb. Now a days this term is not used most widely.
Floating point numbers are some time gathered in form of bits, nibbles, nats, or bans, Bit is usually referred to the smallest unit of computer memory.
