When Was Rotherham United Football Club Founded?

    A football team from Rotherham has been in existence since 1870, however it wasn't until 1925 that Rotherham United Football Club was founded.
    In 1870 Rotherham FC were formed and later became Rotherham Town.
    At a similar time a team called Thornhill was developed, which later became Rotherham County. This team was accepted into the Football League in 1919 and merged with Rotherham Town in 1925 to form the united side that we know today.

    The club's highest ever performance was coming 3rd in Division Two in 1955. Rotherham were equal on points with the teams in 1st and 2nd place, but missed out on promotion to the top flight on goal difference.

    Rotherham United Football Club have played at Millmoor since 1925, earning the club the nickname of 'the Millers'. The stadium has a capacity for approximately 7,500 people.

    The club currently resides in the League One division and finished in 20th place in the 2005/06 season.
