How To Calculate Percentage?
40 Answers - Sort by: Date | Rating
The simplest way to calculate percentage is to divide the given amount by the total amount and then multiplying the answer by 100 to get the percentage of the given amount with respect to the total amount.
The equation can be put up as follows:
(Given amount/ Total amount) x100
For example if John scores 60 out of 75 in mathematics we can find the percentage of his marks by dividing 60 by 75 which comes to be 0.8 and then multiplying it by 100 which gives us the percentage of his marks in math which is 80%.
(60/75) x 100 = 80%
When there are a number of given amounts (variables) and we have to find their individual percentages then we have to add the given amounts to determine the total amount after which by the above mentioned procedure we can easily find the individual percentages by dividing each given amount by the total amount and then multiplying it by 100.
Percentage questions are often worded in different ways like how much is x% of y (80% of 75). Using the above example we can find the answer by multiplying 75 by 80 and then dividing the amount by 100 to find the answer which is 60. To calculate percentage increase or decrease between two numbers just subtract the smaller number from the greater and then divide the answer by the original one and then multiply it by 100 to determine the percentage increase or decrease. For example to calculate the percentage increase from 20 to 30 we subtract 20 from 30 and then divide the number obtained which is 10 by the original number which is 20 and then multiply the obtained number which is 0.5 by 100 to get the percentage increase which is 50%.

The Easy way to calculate percentage (for me) is to find 1% of the amount and then times it by the wanted percent. For Example => : if you want to find 79% of 200, find 1% of 200 by dividing by 100 = 2 then multiplying that (2) by 79. you will get 158. so 158 is 79% of 200.

What about when the smaller number is a negative number?
Let's take for example a maths score,
you got 35 marks on a paper. The paper is out of 45. So..
35 divided by 45 = 0.7777777
x100 = 70%
simple
here's another one
16 marks out of 20
16 divided by 20 x100 = 80%
16/20x100
a/bx100
hope this helps :)

The answer to the first problem is 77%. 35 divided by 45 = 0.77777777 x 100 = 77.7....
For example..
20 people out of a class of 40 got full marks in a test. Write out the percentage of the class who got full marks in the test.
20 divide by 40 times by 100
(20/40*100)
= 50
So 50% of the class got full marks in a test.

Of course there is a mathematical formula to calculate percentage and it was written in previous answers. But I want to show how one can fast calculate percentage in mind. For the begining one can always calculate 10% of begining number (for exmaple x (this is easy because it is y=x/10, by y I denote 10% of x). And next one can calculate 1% of begining number (denote by z) - z=x/100, or z=y/10.
And now one can calculte any percentage of number.
For exmaple:
We want to know - 23% of 123:
10% is 12.3
1% is 1.23
so
23%=10% +10% +1% +1% +1%=12.3+ 12.3 +1.23 +1.23 +1.23
=24.6 +3.69 =28.29
PS.
Sorry for my english :-((

the way to calculate the percentage is:
p = B * R
P is part,
B is base,
R is rate.
so we change the position to find rate..
R = P/B or Rate = Part divide by base..
e.g.
part is 10, base is 100, find rate..
so use the formula..
R = P/B
R= 10/100

the way to calculate the percentage is:
p = t/n
P is percentage
T is total value
N is no of percentage.
so we change the position to find rate..
e.g.
total value is 381,no of percentage is 5
so use the formula..
p= T/N
p=381/5
p=76.2%

In education point like percentage of total marks earned:your mark/total marks and multiple it 100 ie; your mark-400 total mark 500 :400/500:.80 x 100.
In business point that is profit percentages total profit earned/total sales and multiply it 100 ie, your profit :20000 and total sales 200000.00
20000/200000: .10 x 100:10%

the best way to calculate percentage is use that formula
(the points which you have/ total points)*100
For example that you scored 500 out of 750
So the points which u have is 500
Total points is 750
Therefore, your percentage will be:
(500/750)*100 =
(the points which you have/ total points)*100
For example that you scored 500 out of 750
So the points which u have is 500
Total points is 750
Therefore, your percentage will be:
(500/750)*100 =

percentage is defined as what you get in how much according to 100.if a person find 1000 tickets & he wants to sell 5% of that then he has to multi 1000 with 5 & again divide it by 100.so he has to sell 50 tickets.this is an example to define the percentage.

Percentage refers to a number in terms of 'hundred'. In other words, percentage means 'parts per hundred'. It is calculated by using three steps:
1. Note the value of the number given, for which you have to calculate the percentage. Say, it is 500.
2. Note the value of the percentage to be calculated, say, 50 percentage of 500. percentage is normally indicated by this sign: %
3. Now, the final step: to calculate 50% of 500, divide 50 by 100, and multiply this by 500. The formula used is this:
= 50∕100 × 500
= 50 × 5
= 250
Therefore, 50% of 500 is equal to 250.
This is a simple method to calculate percentage.

Turn your percentage into a decimal
for example 40% would be 0.4
then times that by the number you are finding the percentage of :)

Percentages are compared to 100% because ALL of something (say a dollar) is 100% of it.
To figure what percent of something is (say 56% of 80) you just think of the words "percent of" as "Multiply." So 56 X 80 = 4,480 BUT NOW you MUST put your decimal point two places (for the two zeros in 100) to the LEFT. So 4480. Becomes 44.80 so 56%of 80 is 44.8
If you don't understand why the zero was dropped, it is because zeros past the numbers to the right of a decimal point are treated the same as zeros to the left of the numbers on the left of the decimal point. EX: 007. Is just 7, you don't need the zeros in front of it to tell you this is 7 because its place in the ones column tells you it's 7, but if the number was .007 you would need them, because the zeros there let you know that this 7 is in the one thousandth place and the number is actually the fraction 7/1000; but if the number is .700 we know the fraction is 7/10 whether or not we have zeros to the right of it, so the zeros to the right of it are unnecessary and just writing .7 is fine.

By a certain percant ,we mean that many hundredths.Thus,x percent means x hundredths , written as x%
eg:-
20%=20/100
To express a/b as a percent : we have a/b=(a/b*100)%
eg:-
1/4=(1/4*100)%=25%;
If price increase by r%, then the reduction in consumption
[r/(100+r)*100]%
If the price decrease by r%, then the increase[r/(100-r)*100]%
eg:-
20%=20/100
To express a/b as a percent : we have a/b=(a/b*100)%
eg:-
1/4=(1/4*100)%=25%;

The easiest way to calculate % is
let us assume x,y
then x = current amt, & y = Total amt.
by using the formula
percentage = (x/y) * 100
we can find the percentage.
e.g.
current amt is 20, total amt is 100,
then we can find the rate..
by using the fromula!!!!
x=20 & y=100
percent= (20/100)*100
20%

Percentage is nothing but the efficiency calculation in a given event
simple formula for percentage is
percentage=(number of times given work has done divided by total number of times the work has done) multiplied with cent.
Percentage=(number of times work done/total number of times work done)*100
simply remember as
percentage=(part of value/total value)*100
percentage refers if there is 100 parts, the efficiency of work is in how many part.

the best and easy way to calculate %age is to divide that no with the tiotal no and finally multiply with hundred.......
like.....10 is what % of 100?
10/100=1/10
1/10*100=10%.
like.....10 is what % of 100?
10/100=1/10

Percent means for every hundred. A fraction whose denominnator is 100, is called a percentage and the numerator of the fraction is known as the rate of percent.
It is generally expressed by %.
Example- Evaluate 10% of 250
Solution- 10% of 250 = 10/100 of 25
= 10*250/100
= 25
It is generally expressed by %.

Lets say you got 15 out of 20.
You multiply 15 by 100.
15x100=1500.
Then, you divide that by 20.
1500/20=75%
the mathematical equation is:
15x 100 / 20 = 75%!
SImple, eh?

That is not too hard. Lets say you want to know what 5% of 20 is. The 20 would be your 100%. So you divide 20 thru 100 and that gives you 1% ( 0.2 ) then you multiply by 5 that gives you the 5%.( 1 ) . So your 5% from 20 is 1 . I hope that this helps you a little bit .

Just add your marks and divide it with total marks.
E.g. If u score 99out of 100 in maths 95out of 100 in english then your percentage will be
99+95=194 and 100+100=200
therefore 194 out of 200 194/200=0.97
add two decimals
i.e 97%
thanks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Percentage is nothing but whatever we have out of something, we should calculate that out of 100.
Formula:
first let us take x which is out of y
now we want to find the percentage of the above
i.e we should find x out of 100.
percentage=(x/y)*100
thus we should calcualte the percentage.

To calculate percentage here are 2 examples.
1- how much is 10% of 500?
the calculation will be 500 divided by 100 multiply by 10 will give you the 10 % of 500.
500 / 100=5 x 10 = 50.
2- if you bought something for $400 and sold it for $500.
what's the % of profit you earned?
500 divided by 400 the answer any thing above the decimal point is the percentage of profit.
500 / 400 = 1.25 . so 25 is the % of profit.
