    Muhammad-Bin-Musa Khwarzmi was a well-known mathematician of the Muslim era. He was born around780 AD in the city of Khawarzm. He was an important member of the great institution of learning the Bait-ul-Hikmat, established by the great Abbassid caliph Mamun-ur-Rashid.

    His most important achievements are the two monographs Hisab and Aljabar-wal-Muqabla. He introduced the method of counting based on numeralsand the decimal system used all over the world since then by adopting his system various arithmetical operations like addition, subtraction, multiplication. Division became vastly simplified. His second book, Aljabar-wal-Muqbala is the first book in the world written on the subject of algebra.

    He laid down the basis for the further development of mathematics in this important book, which proved of great importance in the later periods. One important feature of his algebra is that he used geometrical constructions for the first time for solving various algebraic problems. Later other mathematicians have used this method He died in 850 AD.

    The famous Arab philosopher Yaqoob Kindi was born in 800 in Basra. He produced extensive research monographs on metrology, specific gravity and on tides but his most important work was done in the field of optics, especially on the reflection of light.
