Who Is The First Cricketer To Hit 100 Runs ?

Answer Question

That question is a toughie! Simply because cricket has such a long history. It would be prudent to consider your question from the point of view of documented cricket history, from the time the first official test match was played.

The first official test match was played between the old rivals in cricket, England and Australia, in the year 1877. The test match was played between March 15 to 19, 1877. There were a number of records set during the match, that being the first official test match. Most of these records were set by one Australian batsman, Charles Bannerman. He faced the first ball in test cricket, and also scored the first test run. He also hit the first four in a test match, and most importantly, scored the first test century ever. His score was an impressive 165 not out out of a total of 245. Australia won the match by 45 runs.

However, if you are talking about the first recorded century ever, and not just of test cricket, that credit would go to John Minshull. He hit the first recorded century in 1769, while playing for the Duke of Dorset's XI against Wrotham.
