How Do I Start To Play Mah-Jong?

To begin mah-jong, the East Wind player must be chosen for the first round. To do this, each of the four wind tiles are placed face down on the table and shuffled. This can be in the form of the wind tiles or the wind discs. To choose the places around the table, each player selects a tile or disc.

The leader of the first round is the player that picks the east Wind. The West Wind sits opposite the East Wind, the South wind to the right of the East Wind and the North Wind sits in the remaining position. The positioning does not match the points on a compass.

East wind begins by throwing a tile away. His points will be double in both receiving and payment in this round. After each hand is completed, the position of East Wind moves round to the right, along with the black rack.

When each player has been East Wind once, the round is over and the South Wind becomes the main wind for the next round. The game is over when each wind has prevailed, so after four rounds are completed. The game can continue for many hours and so an alternative method is to stop at an agreed time.
