The oldest woman in the world to give birth is Adriana lliescu. She was apparently 66 years of age when she gave birth to Eliza Maria on 16 January 2005.

However the child Eliza Maria is not her biological child (As the ovum and the sperm are both from anonymous donors) and lliescu was more like a substitute mother. Adriana lliescu is a retired University teacher from Romania and writes story books for young children.

She was given fertility treatment to invalidate the menopause in 1995. Romanian law system which was governing the situation has now decided to adopt the Europeans law system where fertility treatment is banned above the age of 50. The situation became international headlines, kick starting a debate whether fertility treatment is ethical after a certain age.
