Did Elvis Ever Come To Britain?

Elvis never performed in Britain but he did touch down briefly at Prestwick in Scotland on return from his two-year stint of military service in Germany. Prestwick was host to a U.S. air force unit at the time and the stopover was necessary so that the plane could take on fuel for the long journey back to America.

Despite attempts at preserving secrecy over Elvis' visit, news of his impending arrival leaked out and throngs of fans were waiting to greet him.

Elvis mingled briefly with the fans before being hustled into a waiting car and driven off to the officers' mess. Those who happened to be present on the scene remember him as being pleasant and polite and a local photographer managed to snap quite a few photographs of the encounter. They show Elvis still wearing his military uniform and cap, shaking hands and chatting with the crowds of admirers.
