When Was The Independence Of Bolivia?

Answer Question

2 Answers - Sort by: Date | Rating

Bolivia was declared an independent nation on August 6, 1825. Bolivia's independence (from the Spanish colonial rule) was officially proclaimed in 1809, but it was a long and hard struggle that went on for 16 years after that, before the country was official declared a republic. The person credited with the attainment independence for Bolivia was Simon Bolivar, who valiantly fought similar campaigns in about half-a-dozen South American nations, including Venezuela, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru and Panama.

Bolivar is considered a national hero and revered in these countries. He was born in Caracas, the capital of Venezuela, on July 24, 1783 and died in Santa Marta, Colombia on December 17, 1830 at the relatively young age of 47. The freedom struggles in all these countries are collectively named Bolivar's War after their brave leader, whose given full name at birth was Simon Jose Antonio de la Santisima Trinidad Bolivar y Ponte Palacios y Blanco.
