Agatha Christie was a famous English crime fiction novellist. She lived from 15th September 1890 to 12th January 1976. She also wrote under the name of Mary Westmacott, although both this and Christie were not the author's real name. Instead, she was born as Agatha Mary Clarissa Miller.

She wrote a remarkable 66 crime novels which are still read all over the world and have been translated into an estimated 103 languages. Characters made famous by her writing are the fictional 'Hercule Poirot' and 'Miss Marple' both of which have been successfully adapted into TV and film versions. Examples of these are 'Death on the Nile', 'The Mirror Crack'd' and 'Murder on the Orient Express'.

Christie also wrote a play called 'The Mousetrap' which is Britain's longest-running stage performance, having been there since 1952.

Agatha Christie died at the age of 85 on 12th January, 1976. Her grandson now owns the royalties to her work.
