Is There Any Evidence That The Druids Did Perform Human Sacrifices?

Answer Question

Much of what is written about the Druids is based on Roman properganda  writings condeming the art of Druidic sacrifice. The Romans had by this time banned human sacrifices and adopted a 'holier than thou' attitude towards it.

The discovery of Lindow Man on 1 August 1984 at Wilmslow, Cheshire, dated to around  AD50-100,gave rise to the idea of sacrifice. This was strengthened when Dr. Anne Ross and Dr. Dan Robins published the book The Life and Death of a Druid Prince, based on little solid evidence and much unfounded speculation.

The image of the Wicker Man strengthened the arguement, though this has little or no foundation in any historic sources.

There is nothing in Irish literture that points to the practice, given that the Druids lasted in Ireland for around 400 years after they had been officially suppressed in what is now England and Wales.

It is known that Greek and Roman society did practice human sacrifice sometimes on a large scale and turned their propaganda techniques against other cultures.
