How Do I Start A Literature Discussion Group?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

It has been joked that to read about interesting characters read literature and to meet interesting characters start a literature discussion group. These are more commonly known as 'book discussion groups'.

You can start your own literature discussion group by following some elementary steps. First assess what the clubs requirements are: how often would they meet? Will the club meet at the same place every time or will the place rotate? What kinds of rules are necessary? It is always best to ensure that members share somewhat similar literary interests-that way they are most likely to form a cohesive group. Now find an appropriate place to meet- maybe your home or community centre or anywhere appropriate. Now prepare and distribute a flyer as advertisement for the group. Ensure that it has all the relevant details like what the groups about, what time and where it will meet and so on.
Start by putting up flyers at your community's book stores where interested people are likely to read it and attend.

At your first meeting have a pre-planned agenda. Outline the rules and arrangements of the literature discussion group. Ask people for suggestions on what they want to read and then take a vote. Always ensure that you provide good refreshments so that people feel comfortable and will attend regularly.
