Are Roses Hard To Grow?

Roses can be a hard flower to grow but not if you do the right amount of research beforehand. The worst thing about roses is that they can be unpredictable and even the most avid gardener could face one year without their rose bush flowering, when the first year it actually bloomed really well.

The secret is to keep the roses in a place where they will get at least 5 hours sun light a day, and make sure you keep a look out for aphids. Aphids feed off rose bushes and they can destroy the flowers really quickly if there is an infestation of them. You can easily get rid of them with soapy water in a spray bottle.

Another good tip for roses is to prune them in winter. This should ensure that you have a good bloom by late spring, depending upon when your roses actually bloom. Different roses bloom at different times of the year and whilst some only bloom in spring, others bloom all year round.
