What Is Jeet Kune Do?

Answer Question

2 Answers - Sort by: Date | Rating

Actually, Bruce never published any books on Jeet Kune Do. The books you see are assembled from his notes but he never intended for Jeet Kune Do or Jun Fan Gung Fu (his personal system of martial art) to be taught to the general public. That info. Comes straight from his first student and close friend, Jesse Glover.

Meaning Way of the Intercepting Fist, Jeet Kune Do is a small martial, a minority compared to the major Chinese, Korean and Japanese arts such as Kung-Fu, Taekwondo and Judo.

It is often known as just JKD and was developed as a system of combat by martial artist, film star and philosopher, the late Bruce Lee.

in 2004, the name of the martial art's name was changed officially by the Lee Foundation to Jun Fan Jeet Kune Do, which translates as Bruce Lee's Way of the Intercepting Fist.

JKD was the culmination of Lee's long study and research into the hand to hand combat martial arts.  He sought relentlessly throughout his life to find the simplest and most effective methods of combat.

He published these ideas in various books, including the Tao of Bruce Lee, and the Bruce Lee's Fighting Method series.

The symbol of Jeet Kune Do, worn by practitioners, has chinese character symbols which say 'using no way, as a way'.

This somes up his research and the art of JKD.
