Traveling on a steam train is undoubtedly a beautiful excursion. Well you can take your son to the famous Paddington Station for a ride on the vintage steam train. One can also get trains from Euston and King's Cross. It consists of old first class and second class carriages which leave in the morning. It gives the passengers a leisure time of two to four hours where they get an opportunity to visit the interesting places of England's countryside.

For the young kids there is the Bluebell railway in East Sussex, England.  Black 5 Sherwood Forester departs from the London Victoria and reaches destination places like Bath and Bristol. The Steam trains are often referred as Light Railway trains as they travel at a speed of 30 miles / hour. It is a nostalgic experience to travel on a steam train.

A company called 'Steam Dreams' has a train service in full swing called the Cathedrals Express which leaves London on particular days during the year to cathedral cities such as Canterbury, Winchester and Ely.
