How Does A Tow Bar Work?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

A tow bar consists of a metal hook like device that is fitted on to the rear of the vehicle using a metal frame attached with nuts and bolts. The primary purpose of the same is to tow a trailer at the end of the vehicle.

The trailer truck or caravan that generally affixes it self to the rear has a clasping mechanism that attaches itself to the towing hook easily. These tow bars are seen commonly amongst camping vehicles or farm vehicles. There is not much danger in these hooks coming off as they are designed for this purpose.

Tow bars are common amongst military vehicles and trucks as well, where they are needed to tow artillery pieces, fuel and ammunition. The ones that are fitted to tractors for farm work are much more elaborate and consist of electric circuits as well.
