Robert Browning is a poet of original attitudes and thoughts. His poetry is philosophical as well as musical; Browning deals with love in a platonic way. He seeks love for its own sake and considers it as a guiding principal of life. He finds unique ways of expressing his love.
In his first attempt he uses roses to convey his feelings of love. He collected them in the month of June and now he scatters their petals on the path where his beloved Pauline is expected to pass. She may not notice them and in neglecting the flowers she will neglect his love. Still he lets the flowers lie, although they may wither soon.

Music is considered to be the food of love. He tries his hand at playing the lute. It took him months to train his stiff fingers. Now he is skilled in the art of music and can perform before his beloved. If she does not listen to his music he would be disappointed. But it's not for Browning to lose hope. He keeps himself ready in case she wishes to hear it.

The poet spent a life-time in learning how to express his love. He has achieved perfection in the use of best words. He can speak well of happiness or misery of love. If she blesses him with her love, his joy would be boundless.

The last line bears the theme of the poem. Even if she does not return his love, he would not give up loving her. He would not be loser as love is his way of life.
