How To Crate Train A Puppy?

Answer Question

2 Answers - Sort by: Date | Rating

First, the crate should only be big enough for the puppy to sit comfortably in it and turn around.  If it's too big, they'll soil on one side and sleep on the other.  You have to put the puppy in the crate while you're around and sometimes leave for a minute or two to come back.  There's a lot of language online regarding how to crate train successfully.  Unfortunately, my crate training experience with my 5 month pitmix is NOT going good, as he has seperation anxiety.  But, most dogs will love the crate - it acts as THEIR safe-haven.  Make the crate a happy place.  Only allow your pup something he loves (like a toy) in the crate...take it away from him and tell him "no, in your crate" if he brings it out of the crate.  Good Luck!! :)

How to train a puppy - first of all make sure you put newspaper on the floor for it to pee , if the puppy pees on the floor, put her nose into it and give her a small smack on her nose.

Scolding your puppy for something they did (that you didnt see them do) is not good for training. They'll become scared of you among other problems. You have 3 seconds to correct a behavior on a puppy, if you see them pee, yell no and immediately take them outside. Praise them when they go outside - a lot. If you yell at them for something they did a while ago, they'll be confused and won't know why you're yelling. POSITIVE REINFORCEMENT is key!!!!!!!
