Well foreign investment has some positive and some negative points.Due to Foreign investment countries like Nigeria have much more funds or resources available to them, so that they may use these funds or resources to build hospitals or roads and much more.It also helps them to cope with their economies different problems. So to answer your question yes it does help. But every country has a motive in helping others. This may be in the form of resource seeking, market seeking or just to build bridges between countries.Furthermore these type of investments always have strings attached to them meaning there is always a stipulation. So there are problems for a country such as Nigeria but investment is very important for its survival and advancement.

Foreign direct investment FDI, is mostly seen as welcome to 'wealthier' parties to invest in the resources in the concerned country.
FDI really comes with its own set of pros and cons.
Foreign investment is truly justified when the government supports it and the benefits are not pocketed by the investors themselves.
