    UNIX is an operating system just like windows or any other operating system which is installed into the computer. UNIX is system software which is essential for the functioning of the system. However, it is on the discretion of the user to choose any operating system of his own choice.  UNIX is the original creation of Bell laboratories and is used for various purposes such as multitasking, in client server networks, work stations etc. UNIX was made in 1969 and is also named as 'open system' because of variety of data processing applications.

      A computer operating system developed by Kerrighan and Richie at AT&T Bell Labs in the late 1960's. It was written entirely in the C programming language, which made it more easily ported between different hardware platforms. The Internet was originally built entirely upon Unix-based servers.


      It is also powerful multitasking operating system developed in 1969 for use in a minicomputer environment; still a widely used network operating system.
