What Was The Magna Carta All About?
Answers
In the early part of the thirteenth century, King John ruled the state of England. He had given great areas of land to the nobles who controlled those lands and in return paid the king taxes and provided people for the armies and equipment for the wars. King John punished all those nobles severely who failed to meet any of those requirements as this was their part of the bargain of being faithful to the King.
This situation continued for a short period of time until the Nobles could not take the cruel treatment of the King anymore and finally rebelled. They claimed that the King was charging too high of a tax amount, which was leaving them in indigence. As a result, a document called the Magna Carta (or the Great Charter) was drawn up, which the nobles forced the King to sign. The crux of the document dealt with the rights of nobles.
