Who Was Berenice Abbott?

    Berenice Abbott was a well-known American photographer who was best known for her black and white photos of New York during the Great Depression (the 1930s).  She used a large format camera to take pictures of the buildings and landscapes of New York City. She paid very close attention to detail in her photography. She was born on July 17, 1898 and passed away on December 9, 1991 at the age of 93. In addition to beautiful photography, she also wrote poetry and published a journal of her poems called "Transitions" in 1921. Later in her photography career, she focused on taking scientific photos and in the late 1950s; she took several scientific photos that were published in a high school physics text book.  Many of her pictures sold for very high price tags. Today, she is known as one photographer who was able to capture the New York City landscapes like no other photographer.
