What's Best A Broadband Modem Or Router?

Answer Question

Best, like in most contexts, is very much a subjective term. The real question here concerns what you want to do with your broadband connection.

A broadband modem, for instance, is only suitable for connecting one computer to the internet. The modem acts as a direct link between the PC and the internet.

A router, meanwhile, enables more than one user to share simultaneously a broadband connection. This is very useful if you have a desktop machine in your home office and a couple of teenagers with laptops, or for a small company to obtain broadband access for three to four workstations. Another distinct advantage of a router is that it uses Ethernet, freeing up a USB port for other devices.

Also, a router, from a security point of view, is the better option as it acts as a gateway between connected computers and the internet, thereby providing an extra line of defence from hackers and viruses.
