Where Is The Jasper And Banff National Park?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

The Jasper and Banff National Park is actually two separate parks that lie within a few kilometres of each other in the Rocky Mountains of Alberta, in Canada. They are about 250 kilometres south west of Edmonton and are bordered by British Columbia.

The Jasper National Park has an area of 10 878 square kilometres, the Banff National park an area of 6470 square kilometres. The parks are of great ecological importance because they occupy the site of Canada's most spectacular glacier and they protect important species such as the rare black and grizzly bears.

Both parks are well known for their breathtaking mountain scenery, wilderness and wildlife. The movement of glaciers in the past has carved out deep valleys, dramatic cliffs and many high peaks. The Columbia ice field, the largest of Canada's ice fields, lies across parts of Jasper and Banff, giving rise to the large and powerful Athabasca Glacier.
