Can You Tell Me Something About Employee Review?

I went into my employee review the other day and was asked what do I want to talk about. Right out of the gate I stated money. The company I work for offered me a 5% increase in pay to my salary. I told them I was asking for a 9 to 10% increase because their offer only would bring me up to a cost of living increase. Did I ask for the average expected increase or to much? They told me that they would get back to me. It has been a week now. What should I think.

To be honest, I think 5% increase is not bad offer in nowadays. Since I don't know your job responsibilty, skills, experience or what kind of company you are working for, its difficult to say if they would accept your request or not.
But if you are not satisfied with the offer they made, i think the best way is to leave.

I think it might be worth having a dialogue about.  They didn't flat out tell you no, so there may be some wiggle room for them for a good performer.  Also, most companies have departmental budgets for increases... say 5-7% of departmental salaries overall.  It might be a little less or a little more, but managers try to work within that.  Maybe it would be good for you to h ave some specific reasons and instance of performance that could justify your request.  That makes it easier on the manager, also, because they have to justify a higher increase to their superiors.  Good luck!
