Dictionary online is nothing but a website that offers a meanings, pronunciations and phonetics of several thousand words and phrases. It is just like a normal dictionary and is the result of the new era of internet. Just like everything else dictionaries have also become online. What is more, an online dictionary is easier to peruse because one just has to type a word or term in the space allotted and search it on the dictionary. Thus it is more time saving and also involves less effort in searching and sorting words.

There are several dictionaries on the internet. Most of them offer a wide range of words and their meanings. Some of the most well known and good online dictionaries are MSN Encarta dictionary, Wiktionary by Wikipedia and many others. There are specialized dictionaries too like medical dictionary and a dictionary for computer terms. It is possible to know about all these dictionaries with the help of online directory that lists the names of all major online dictionaries and several others as well.

      Try the following websites:

      The Oxford English Dictionary website
obviously the authoratitive guide to definitions and words
      www.oed.com

      Dictionary.com
I believe this looks at a few different dictionaries to give you a wider choice of answers
      dictionary.reference.com

      Google.com
      if you type -
      define:
Followed by the word you want to look up, google will do a search for references where the word is defined.  I wouldn't recommend this, but you can try it as a last resort.  I would definitely go with the first two for sure, and depending on whether you need more technical definitions for words, you can follow the links referenced by the first two sites.
