How Do I Change Front Wheel Bearings On My 2001 Dodge Grand Caravan?

Answer Question

Not very hard- jack up van and support with stands, remove front wheels, calipers, and rotors.  Remove large nut from center of drive axle, on the opposite side ( where the driveshaft goes toward the transmission) there are 4 bolts that attach the front hub bearing to the spindle.  They can be hard to get to and tough to break loose, but I did the ones on my 97 Grand Caravan in about 4 hours start to finish for both sides.  Pay attention to how it comes apart and it will make sense as you go.  A repair manual is well worth the price it costs so you can get a visual breakdown of what is involved beforehand.  P.S.  Before dismantling the brakes, use them to hold the rotor from turning when you break the axle nut loose.  You can do the same thing to tighten it to torque specs when the repair is completed.
