What Can I Do When My Hamster Has An Eye Infection Besides Bringing Her To The Vet?

My hamsters eyes keep closing and my hamster keeps forcing them open. Every time i try to clean them she bites me. She gets them open but i am afraid it hurts her. What should i do?

Hold the hamster by the scruff of the neck like you do with a kitten or a dog, when you do this. It incapacitates them long enough to get the paper towel to the eye, and make sure it is very wet.
Set the hamster down for a moment to let them do the cleaning to the eye, and then repeat the process until the eye looks clearer. Don't use soap or anything else, water might be just the ticket to get it cleared up.
Do it a couple of times a day if need be, eventually the hamster might understand what you are trying to do, or he might resent you doing it, but for his health, it wouldn't matter to me if he did resent it.
If it does persist, then I would at least call a vets office and talk to an assistant, sometimes they can tell you over the phone what you might be able to do. Hope this helps, good luck.

Warm moist compresses to your hamster's infected eye would probably help. Also if you were able to tape something over it to keep it from scratching at it. They are notorious scratches.
